Class K8 DN800 ductile iron pipe suppliers

Product Description

Class K8 DN800 ductile iron pipe features a nominal wall thickness of 10.4 mm, calculated per ISO 2531’s formula e = K × (0.5 + 0.001 × DN) with K = 8 and DN = 800 mm . It is rated PN 12.5 (1.25 MPa) for medium-pressure water, sewage, gas and fire-protection mains . With internal cement-mortar lining (CML) and optional loose-fit polyethylene sleeving, its service life exceeds 100 years, extending to 110 years under aggressive soil conditions . Installation uses push-on “Tyton” joints, AWWA C111 mechanical joints and ANSI B16.1 flanged connections for rapid, leak-free assembly . Among K-series classes, wall thickness rises from 8.4 mm (K7)10.4 mm (K8)11.2 mm (K9)14.4 mm (K12), with K8 priced at US $410–540 / ton on global markets .

Applications

Potable Water Distribution

DN800 mains deliver stable hydraulics and minimal leakage in municipal networks, even under variable demand .

Sewage & Drainage

Abrasion-resistant iron core and smooth CML convey grit-laden wastewater reliably in gravity or forced mains .

Irrigation Systems

Uniform flow and surge resilience support large-scale agricultural and landscape irrigation .

Gas Distribution

When manufactured per EN 969 and coated externally, DN800 K8 pipes safely convey natural gas up to 16 bar .

Fire-Protection Mains

High ductility and surge capacity ensure reliable water delivery in hydrant loops and feeder mains .

Service Life

Modern ductile iron pipe routinely exceeds 100 years in benign soils, thanks to its tough matrix and CML .
CML-lined pipes have a predicted life expectancy of over 100 years based on utility surveys and coupon studies .
Loose polyethylene sleeving per ISO 8180 adds ~10 years of corrosion protection, reaching 110 years in aggressive soils .
A life-cycle cost analysis shows ductile iron mains save US $47.68/ft over PVC, yielding US $17 million PV benefits in 50 years .

Installation & Connection

  • Push-On (“Tyton”) Joints: Spigot-socket with elastomeric gasket for bolt-free, rapid sealing per ISO 2531 .

  • Mechanical Joints: Gland-and-bolt restraint per AWWA C111 for restrained/unrestrained connections .

  • Flanged Joints: ANSI B16.1 flanges allow disassembly and high axial-load resistance .

  • Best Practices: 150 mm graded bedding, ≤ 3 % deflection, hydrostatic testing and chlorination per ISO 2531/AWWA C600 maximize longevity .

K-Series Comparison & Pricing

Class Wall Thickness (mm) Price (USD/ton)

FAQ

Q1: How do K classes differ?
They follow e = K (0.5+0.001 DN)—for DN 800, K7=8.4 mm, K8=10.4 mm, K9=11.2 mm, K12=14.4 mm, matching PN 10/12.5/16/25 respectively .

Q2: Which joint type to choose?
Push-On: Fast, bolt-free sealing.
Mechanical: Restrained/unrestrained versatility.
Flanged: Maintenance access & axial-load resistance .

Q3: Is LPS necessary?
Recommended in aggressive soils for up to 110 years life; proven by Everglades tests.

Q4: What sizes & lengths are offered?
DN 80–2600 mm, standard 6 m laying lengths (5.7 m for containers), custom cuts on request .

Q5: Can DIP be used in seismic zones?
Yes—restrained joints (tie-rod, ball-and-socket) absorb ground movement for seismic resilience .

Case Studies

  • Huntsville Utilities, AL: Life-cycle analysis reports US $47.68/ft net savings and US $17 million PV benefit over 50 years for DN 600 vs PVC mains.

  • Everglades City, FL: LPS-encased DIP remained in “excellent condition” after 10+ years in corrosive muck (140–240 Ω-cm) .

  • Energy & Cost Savings: AWWA Journal finds utilities save millions in pumping energy with DIP vs alternatives, cutting 7.1 million kWh/yr.
